Jefferson County Park on PhotoPeach

It's Not Spring 'til the Frogs Sing!

Kb and Therese Cummiskey created a Froggy Orchestra! We were spring peepers, bull frogs, toads, cricket frogs and more! We had a fun day at the park learning about the different kind of frogs in Iowa. We learned about their songs and life cycles. We visited a pond and caught tadpoles, frogs and snails. What a great day!

Popcorn and a Movie

What could be better on a cold, rainy day? Mr. Welch delivered popcorn to our classroom and we watched the story, "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type."

Rhyming Dust Bunnies

Recognizing and producing words that rhyme is an important Kindergarten Benchmark. This week we read "Rhyming Dust Bunnies" by Jan Thomas. We created lists of rhyming word families and then made our own dust bunnies! Students each chose a word and wrote all the words they could think of that rhymed with it. The story is so much fun and it was great to see how different each one of our dust bunnies turned out!

Chicken's Aren't the Only Ones

This week we learned about Oviparous animals! We went on an Easter egg hunt, but when we opened our eggs there were different animals in them! We brainstormed what they might have in common, and after reading "Chicken's Aren't the Only Ones" by Ruth Heller we discovered they all hatched from eggs. They are Oviparous! We then became detectives and scoured through non-fiction books to find animals that hatch from eggs. Here are some video clips of KB telling about the eggs they found in different books with their partners!
